Sep. 30th, 2004 11:43 amLast night I went to the bloodletting center directly after work to register as a blood donor. I was really nervous at the bus but it was really no big deal. The folder you had to read about contagious diseases had me a bit terrified ("Have you been exposed to blood splatter in the past six months?") and made me think things like "I can't remember everything that's happened in the past six months! I can't be 100% sure I don't have any diseases! What if I kill someone with my blood?"
The nurse was nice and I got to go into a special little room where they asked some more questions (In addition to the "Have I been to the UK between 1980 and 1996?" and "When did I pierce my ears?") and pricked me in the arm. It went surprisingly well, and the nurse understood that I was nervous. It only took ten minutes and then they gave me my first appointment to come in and donate blood in three weeks. If I don't hear anything, it means all my tests came back clean and I can just show up. Then she gave me a couple of broschures that tell me I'm a hero and that was it. One my way home I bought a birthday card for my brother and a voucher for clothes to give him on his birthday.
