I'm fully on board with Discovery being the future of Star Trek. (I realized a few days ago why I hate Picard so much. It's Brexit in space. And I hate Brexit.) And this Disco episode!!! (s3x07) kind of solidified that.

Not only is season three the first "real" Star Trek season. They have an admiral! (Played by Oded Fehr, who has aged soooo well.)

The admiral assigns them missions!

The crew of Discovery executes these missions!

And, like, the chain of command exists and such things. :D I enjoy it so much.

In this episode - besides paying tribute to the great, late, Anton Yelchin - they tie into the Romulan-Vulcan conflict portrayed in The Next Generation and use footage of Leonard Nimoy and there are ZERO action scenes in the episode. :D :D :D

Bruce Greenwood's Captain Pike was so universally loved in the Star Trek-fandom and for good reason too. He was kind, a strong but fair leader, a father figure who inspired others to be their best and didn't crush his subordinates with his ego.

Two episodes in on the second season of Discovery I feel exactly the same way about Anson Mount's Captain Pike (who I suspect took a fair bit from the 2009 movie). He's basically a positive masculinity posterboy, and boy do I like it!

And maaaaybe with the arrival of a positive white male role model the naysayers can maybe calm down a bit?
Look, you guys are represented too! White men have a role in the future.

Also, he's sexy as fuck and he wears the costume well. :D

Woah! Season premiere of Discovery was actually very good!

Funny, fast-paced and very heavy on interactions between characters who aren't in anguish/secretely evil/distrustful of each other.

And the new captain is sweet!

More of this please.

As you may know, I'm a huge fan of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal. Yes, it's an extremely dark, psychological horror show with cannibalism themes, but at no time are you not aware that you're watching psychological horror with cannibalism themes.

When I'm watching a Star Trek show? I'm not expecting ANY OF THOSE THINGS. And I'm most certainly not expecting borderline-abusive incest obsession as character motivation. D:

(Yeah, this might be a good time to give up on the show. Or just not start if you've never seen it.)
