So y'all know my partner left for a shiny new career. Well, now the power controller is going to leave for the same shiny new career. And guess what that makes me???

GUESS!!!!

I had a meeting with the boss today and she's so excited for me to join the team. I start January 1st, get a 20% higher salary, they're paying for me to get certified (I love education!!) with an additional salary increase if I get good grades.

But most importantly, it's going to BE SO MUCH FUN and I'm going to learn SO MUCH.

*happy brain dance*

1) Spent yesterday debating a dude on YouTube who argued that rape should be legal. FML.

2) I'm 10 sessions through a 16 session treatment program for OCD which doubles as a research study. We'll see if it helps me at all.

3) Still no writey, but at least I'm reading fic.

4) Seasonal depression sucks.

5) My closest colleague left for a shiny new career on Friday. No more Dynamic Duo. :-/

6) I'm serious about weight lifting again; twice a week, eating all the supplements, so far no injuries. *crosses fingers*

7) Star Trek Discovery is okay, it's not bad, but it's not very Star Trek, either. 7/10 will recommend if you're looking for a sci-fi action drama with great characters. Just don't expect Star Trek.

8) So. Many. Powerful. Swedes. Ousted including a person with ties to the Nobel Committee.

9) Male sexuality is suuuuper fucking scary, but I also have a lot of men in my life that I don't think are abusers deep down, so there's that.

1) I'm genuinely disappointed and heart-broken over Italy's loss in Eurovision last night. For months I've been so sure of a win, and when I watched country after country give Italy Null Points while giving points to much less worthy songs, it was the biggest let-down in a long time. I'm extremely angry that our own entry, a mindless, soulless, bubble-gum pop song, finished HIGHER than the glory that is Occidentali's Karma.

To put it in fandom language: it's as if your OTP is sunk in canon while your NOTP becomes End Game. I'll be grieving this for a long time.

2) My parents were supposed to fly home on Friday, but dad fell out of bed on Thursday night and on Friday morning he was full-on demented. Didn't know where he was, thought his brother was still alive etc. Mom called my brother and we did a Stroke-test, then I called an ambulance.

The EMTs were super-professional and dad was admitted to the hospital. Mom spent all weekend staying at my apartment, and I got more Mom-time, which was great. Sadly, this meant I had to go to M's apartment and watch Eurovision on her tiny computer screen instead of my big-screen TV. But considering how the show turned out, maybe this was a blessing in disguise. :-/

I spent the night, and after a nice breakfast, I got a call from the hospital that dad was being discharged. Mom, on the other hand, had broken out in fever and was too tired to go pick him up. So I picked him up and we went home in a taxi together. Turns out he had a "mysterious infection" and antibiotics were doing the trick. He's still tired, but not confused and can walk without falling down.

This evening, my other brother came by to pick my parents up. Now they will stay at his house until they are well enough to travel home.

I'm finally sitting down with my computer for the first time in days. And I was planning a whole weekend of partying and writing. :O

For many years this used to mean a break in my fandom activities. A week at home meant a week cut off from the internet.

I didn’t get a smartphone until 2011, and as late as 2014 I was always running out of data.

Now, thanks to both technical & business development, I’ll probably get more time to read fic than I do at home!

This means the prospect of going home is 100% relaxing. I suspect we'll be spending a lot of time indoors as it will be -25 degrees Celcius outside!

Birthday!

I have now lived 37 years without having a penis inside me. (Yes, that's how I measure my age
:-P)

I had the ~brilliant~ idea of treating myself by wearing a nicotine patch, which made me extremely sick. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking, I had difficulty concentrating and I felt really ill. I took it off after an hour and it took two hours until I was back to normal. Never doing that again!

Malin was here and helped me put up my Christmas tree. We had cake and went to a new tapas place. Now I'm drinking Whisky Sour and watching season one Supernatural. Not a great birthday, but not a bad one either.

Yesterday was a long day. I commuted to my brother’s new house where we held an 80th birthday dinner for our dad. Both my brothers, their wives and their children were there. I’m the only one who doesn’t have a partner or children, which makes me feel like a teenager even though I’m almost 37.

Our gift to dad was his autobiography turned into a book - complete with pictures. He spent almost a year writing that book, and he was very touched to see the final result. He made a short speech where he said he is the only one from his family to live to see 80 and how grateful he is for living this long.

Life is a gift. Longevity is a gift.

Today mom and dad are coming here for a three-night stay, which means it’s podfic & cleaning time!!

Dad’s actual birthday is on Tuesday and I hope I’ll get to take them out to dinner. I really love when my parents visit because I get to show my town to them. I’m very grateful that I’ve had several such visits over the years.

Christmas!

I just failed to manipulate my mother to chip in for my Christmas tickets!

Me: “The flights are so expensive… It’s 250 EUR if I travel from 23-27 Dec. After Christmas they have a sale and the tickets cost 100 EUR if I travel from 4 to 9 January.”

Me: “I’m not cheap, I’m just thrifty.”

She: “That’s a very good quality! Come in January!”

So, now I have to plan my first Christmas on my own. :D

It’s okay, I’m really relieved not to be travelling during Christmas, and I have several friends I can hang out with. Plus, I’ll just get to relax!

The hair dresser called it the "Kylie Jenner style dye job." Whatever that means.

See how naturally it blends with my real hair color?

Mojito night at my balcony last night. Sun is up until ten pm in Sweden now.

This is what's going on in my life for the next month:

- Eurovision next week! Tuesday, Malin and I are going to semi-final 1 in Globen Arena, Stockholm. Then watch it on TV as usual on Thursday and Saturday.

- Finish the fanfiction I've been working on since February.

- Supernatural and Grimm season finales.

- Malin and I go to Patmos, Greece, for one week. I haven't visited a warm country since 2007, and I'm really looking forward to bathing, sunbathing and enjoying the warm climate. (Also, Greek food, yum!)

I'm 36!!

It’s nine am and I’m having breakfast (American pancakes with maple syrup and coffee) in my robe. I have today off from work to celebrate. I plan to watch Netflix (Mythbusters and season 1 SPN) and get take out later in the evening. I’ve got a cake in the fridge for my two friends who are coming by later.

Did I even post anything last year? I was at this Japanese resort for two days, more for the sake of "doing something" for my 35th birthday than actually enjoying it all that much. This year I have no expectations, no demands.

It's Sunday morning and I'm drinking coffee and listening to the "Exotic Naps" playlist on Spotify. I have no laundry or other errands to do today. I'm going to stay inside all day, re-dye my hair and hopefully find some nice fanfiction to read.

The weather is rainy and windy outside, but I'm hot thanks to the electric radiator I bought two years ago. I planted heather in the two flower boxes on the balcony: one purple and one red. I worry that I made one of the boxes too heavy; it seems to bounce slightly in the wind.

Have a nice Sunday, everyone.

As part of the annual Kringel festival, Loreen was last night's closing act. Måns Zelmerlöw performed on the same stage about a month ago, so I can now say I have seen two Eurovison winners live!

That time I got a really bad spot and could hardly see the poor boy. This time I arrived in good time and found a really awesome spot as you can see below!

Warning: keep the sound down. The bass really blew the speakers (you can imagine what it was like to stand there!).

Today's Kringel festival program for me is less loud - a Swedish Maritime Administration tour and another visit to the food trucks! (Cheese steak last night: A+)

I just got back from following one of my best friends [livejournal.com profile] silversolitaire to the train. She is going back home today. This concludes the 13 day period of travelling/having guests for me.

I went to visit my parents on the 29th (I can’t believe it’s 13 days ago!!!).

I was with them for a couple of days in the cabin. Then silver came and the four of us were together doing touristy stuff for a couple of days. Silver and I then travelled back home and did touristy stuff in the middle of Sweden. And today she is flying back to her home.

I feel sad but also anti-climactic, somehow?

I have five days left of my vacation so I’ll figure out stuff to do. Maybe catch up on Netflix and fanfiction…

Vacation!

Sitting here having a glass of the champagne my work mates Eva and Anneli gave me as a house warming gift and celebrating the fact that I won't have to work until Aug 18th. :D :D

Going up North for a week starting on Monday, and then I'll have two weeks to putter around here and do stuff.

And my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen entry is finished! I'll post it here after the author reveals.

Two other developments: I finally got the last of my stuff from my old basement (including my bike) and got to see the apartment! The new guy has turned the sleeping alcove into a walk-in closet and turned the dining room into a bed room, putting up the walls and doors that we tore down in 2007. :D :D

I lost the shelves to my Billy book shelf in the move, and IKEA doesn't sell the old model anymore. Finally a guy in Stockholm answered my ad and Malin was kind enough to accompany me there. So now I can finally unpack the boxes that contain the book shelf contents!

Also, last night Lena and her husband Lennart helped me drive a lot of old boxes and other discardable stuff to the recycling center. Moving has really helped me appreciate my friend with cars!

Which means fifteen years ago today I flew down to celebrate her birthday. (Come February, I will have lived in this city for fifteen years.) And fourteen years ago today was T.G.I. Friday's in Stockholm, and thirteen years ago was that long quiet day spent listening to the radio, baking, cooking and being home maker... See what birthdays do to you? They provide a handy reference point for you to remember the years going by.

The birthday girl herself is off in the UK on adventures with her secret gentleman friend (not boyfriend, boyfriend-ish) and she won't be back until Sunday. I don't think it's sad that I'm not with her. We broke up a long time ago and I'm glad I'm not the only friend she has. She promised to celebrate with me next week, and I told her to tell me what, where, when and how.

Malin at 40 is a much cooler, wiser and more laid-back person than Malin at 25, which is the way things are supposed to be.

She has always said she'll dump the cigarettes at 40, and she recently switched over to E-cigarettes which allows her to fulfill her promise while keeping her nicotine-addiction. Way to find a loop hole, Malin!

Happy Birthday, crazy girl!

... Tonight I started my first fund savings! I feel so adult.

It was a moderately informed decision; I read up on how fees are measured and picked one that had the lowest fees in combination with a good historical success rate and I chose a monthly amount that I can live without. (About the size of my average restaurant visit.)

I've had a safe, long term saving set up for years now and I've been meaning to expand on it for a while. This will be a good test to see how fund saving turns out for me.

...And at some point I might even be ready to start saving up for my retirenment. Which I should have done ten years ago but never got around to...

So I kind of won a mock-Oscar last night. Remember back in november when I posted about the short films we were doing at work? Well, we were on a conference yesterday and last night during dinner there were awards given out for Best Actor, Actress, Screenplay and Film. We won in the last two categories. There were four of us who were on the writing team but they pushed me to the forefront and let me hold the speech because it was mostly my idea. I quoted Stephen Spielberg (this glass of water I've thirsted for my entire life) which drew some laughs. At least twenty people told me later it was a good speech, and there were hugs all around.

During the last award the whole production team of twenty five people came up on stage and the producer made sure to thank everyone, which was awesome.

Now this little man will live in my book shelf for the rest of my life! Ain't he pretty? :D

I am officially a college student. It feels okay-ish.

The school is completely different. Back when I went there, they were just beginning construction of the main building and all our classes were in rented office buildings further down the road. Now they have a brand new library and everything!

I don't know how much campus life I'll immerse myself in. I bought a term pass for the Cinema club, but that's it. They show a movie every wednesday afternoon, and I figured the Wednesdays I'm in school, I'll go. I didn't join the union because their three big perks were:

-student housing (got my condo ;-)
-chep gym membership (already have one through my job)
-discount in the student bar

I was like: "I am in a different life-segment than most of these kids."

During this week I have:

Bought literature
Sat inside the university library and studied
Had my photo taken for the student ID
Had one lunch in the cafeteria
Gone on a guided tour
Sat through three lectures
Had anxiety until I realized that it always sounds worse than it is

So far, so good, I guess. Next week comes the real test when I start my two day a week work scedule and have my first seminar.

One week down, thirty nine to go.
