The sheer brutality of watching this live was one of the best parts of Eurovision 2021. :D

James Newman is such a champ, though!

I LOVE the voting reveal system!

It's so brutal and unforgiving. Dreams crushed right before our eyes - just the way I like it.

Congratulations to Italy!

I voted for Switzerland, but I can live with Italy as a winner.

Eurovision is definitely happening, although in what form, no one knows.

But the competitive element will happen, there will be a winner, and it's.... Returned hope to me?

None of the 39 songs are an absolute OMG BEST SONG EVER to me, but there are several that are Quite Good, and that I'd be okay with winning, and I feel like.... I can care again?

Like, the Swedish representative is a bouncing baby boy, and he beat out 2011 winner Eric Saade, bouncing baby boy of 2011, whose win is always linked to Fukushima in my mind because it happened that week.

New decade, new twink.

I don't root for Sweden, but I don't feel ashamed of our representative.

Ragnar. <3

I have a vet appointment with Ragnar on Thursday to determine if he should get dementia meds or not. He's started screaming randomly - walking into a closet and SCREAMING. Walking outside on the balcony SCREAMING. In that WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE way that I'm sure no cat should ever scream.

So, hopefully, dementia meds, and then a slow, peaceful slope into death.

<3

I adopted him from the shelter in 2006 and the contract I signed said that I should take care of him until death to the best of my ability and I'll feel proud to have done that.

We can all die at any moment. The bodies we inhabit are too fragile.

The lead singer of AWS passed away from leukemia yesterday. He was 29.

To the Eurovision audience, he is known for a song about death (and for providing the best rock entry in Eurovision of all time. Yes, better than Lordi.)

May he rest in Peace.

I haven't posted about this, but Eurovision being cancelled has well and truly broken my heart. It upsets me insanely that all the songs are disqualified. It breaks my heart that Iceland won't get their chance to win for the first time. And I'm 100% sure they would have won!

(At least they won the Swedish vote on Thursday.)

Love you, Dadi! Your song is amazing, and would have won! ;_;

I can't even begin to describe how happy I get when I listen to this song. The contrast between the growling and the high-pitched singing, the techno beat, the catchy refrain - it's a bop! (As the kids say.)

I wish we had the guts to send something different instead of just the same polished, predictable pop acts.

I'm so happy Hungary qualified for the final! I'm not a huge fan of rock music, but look at this!! It's three minutes of pure energy! :D :D

Israel's Eurovision entry is wild! This singer is so talented and she has such a strong personality.

How can you not love this performance? If you're feeling down, take three minutes to watch this. I guarantee you will feel better!

1) I'm genuinely disappointed and heart-broken over Italy's loss in Eurovision last night. For months I've been so sure of a win, and when I watched country after country give Italy Null Points while giving points to much less worthy songs, it was the biggest let-down in a long time. I'm extremely angry that our own entry, a mindless, soulless, bubble-gum pop song, finished HIGHER than the glory that is Occidentali's Karma.

To put it in fandom language: it's as if your OTP is sunk in canon while your NOTP becomes End Game. I'll be grieving this for a long time.

2) My parents were supposed to fly home on Friday, but dad fell out of bed on Thursday night and on Friday morning he was full-on demented. Didn't know where he was, thought his brother was still alive etc. Mom called my brother and we did a Stroke-test, then I called an ambulance.

The EMTs were super-professional and dad was admitted to the hospital. Mom spent all weekend staying at my apartment, and I got more Mom-time, which was great. Sadly, this meant I had to go to M's apartment and watch Eurovision on her tiny computer screen instead of my big-screen TV. But considering how the show turned out, maybe this was a blessing in disguise. :-/

I spent the night, and after a nice breakfast, I got a call from the hospital that dad was being discharged. Mom, on the other hand, had broken out in fever and was too tired to go pick him up. So I picked him up and we went home in a taxi together. Turns out he had a "mysterious infection" and antibiotics were doing the trick. He's still tired, but not confused and can walk without falling down.

This evening, my other brother came by to pick my parents up. Now they will stay at his house until they are well enough to travel home.

I'm finally sitting down with my computer for the first time in days. And I was planning a whole weekend of partying and writing. :O

The First semi-final starts in one hour!! It's the first time I've been genuinely excited about something in weeks.

Got some treats and stuff, watching with M. Parents come tomorrow and leave Friday, so I'll be watching semi-final 2 with them. For the first time in 25-ish years, LOL.

This will be Sweden's representative in Eurovision 2017. Selected by the International juries; the public wanted another candidate.

I like the artist, he deserved to win last year when he had a much better song. (Alas, he is a good decade younger than me, which means I'm not allowed to find him attractive, eh?)

This amazing song by 2012 Eurovision winner Loreen is not going to be one of the 12 songs competing for the Swedish spot next week. Apparently, Swedes prefer light-hearted bubble-gum pop. Not rooting for Sweden this year.

But on the plus side, my 6-week dry period ends next Saturday, so I can get drunk while watching the National Selection. :-)

The wrong song won. Boo. That's all there is to be said about that.

The highlight of the evening? Current Eurovision champion Måns Zelmerlöw performing this awesome accoustic version of last year's winning song, upstaging this years' contestants entirely, and reminding us that we, as a nation, are not worthy of his greatness.

Malin and I are going to the dress rehearsal of Semi final 1. We got good seats. :D
It's at 3 pm so we won't have to go through Stockholm at night to get home and it's nowhere near as expensive as the live shows, so I'm pleased.
