Turning 25
Dec. 19th, 2004 12:38 amI'm 25 now. To recap my birthday:
Woke up at six am after having slept less than seven hours. I wondered when Malin would knock on my door. She was finally woken up by her mother, who had arrived two days earlier to visit. She sang and served me cake on my bed. The cake was delicious! I opened the card I got from my parents which contained a gift certificate for clothes. I also opened Malin's present which was a beautiful steel ring (I had marked the jewelry I liked in a catalogue!) and a pair of steel ear rings. Finally I have a ring, yay! And it's good for allergies too.
I walked to work, deliberately a bit late. Almost all the way there I realize the cake I had bought to bring was left at home in the freezer! Very annoying. Angsted about that a bit and then I decided to just leave it and told my co-workers via e-mail that I would bring the cake on Monday instead. Work was nice although a bit stressful. Clea is in Morocco but we all helped out. At 1230 the others came back from their lunch and I could go eat. They served left overs from the Yule Bord for 50 SEK including beer or Must. I like that, it's sort of a second chance at the Yule Bord. :-) On Thursday I had loaded too much on my plate and eaten too much of things that weren't that important. (We did finish eating in time though. After 45 minutes one shift is over and the next comes in to eat and sit in your seats. And to top it off later afternoon the company had served cake to celebrate Eva turning 50, which she doesn't look, at all, by the way. We think it has something to do with the fact that she has small children.) Anyway, so I had my yummy chipolatas and meatballs and ham and all the other yummy stuff.
Then I went back to work for two more hours. At two o'clock my boss came and started talking about having coffee together. (Of the eight department workers, five of us were there that day.) I said I had forgotten the cake but he wanted us to have coffee anyway. I went to the bath room and then to the coffee room where they were already waiting for me. We had some of Eva's left over cake from yesterday along with the coffee. I noticed some flowers lying on a table and figured they were Eva's that she had forgotten. Then our boss picks up the flowers and holds a little speech! I asked if those were left over from yesterday (because stupidly enough I still believed it!) but he said they weren't and gave them to me along with a card filled with flower checks! Then they all stood up and sang for me and hurrahed and I felt very, very happy although I was a bit too surprised to really enjoy the moment. It was all good.
The thing is, 25 isn't an even birthday, but I suppose since I had sent out the invitations to the party they figured it was (plus they felt guilty they couldn't come.) Then we went back to work. At three they told me to go home and make myself pretty for the party. :-) Then just before I was about to go home the receptionist came up with my aunt and uncle. I introduced them to my boss who was still there and they talked to the president which they apparently know. They gave me a big box of chocolates and drove me and my flowers to town where I picked up the sandwich cake Malin had ordered and bought some final Christmas presents. Then they drove me home where I found more cards. I showered and changed into my new Holiday outfit (red lace underwear & bra, a red strap dress with a jacket.)
Malin and her mom had set up things very nicely in the kitchen with candles and a white table cloth and the good china. The flowers were put on the table with all the cards.
Malin's friend and her friend arrived before six and five minutes later my co-worker Lena (who was representing the company) arrived with her son. From her I got a ceramic goblin pot with Christmas plants that my co-workers had chipped in on and a nice card. Malin's friends gave me my own Mary Sue story! I apparently hook up with Gandalf, Frodo, Harry and Hermione in that one!
I mostly sat with Lena and her son in the kitchen, eating both cakes. I had a glass of champagne as well, but she couldn't since she was driving. Malin took some pictures of us. Her son was nice and liked Douglas which is a plus in my book! After Lena left Malin's friends stayed a while. After they had left Malin's mom went into Malin's room to watch TV and Malin and I watched Spider-Man 2 and had champagne & chocolate.
I went to bed around midnight.
On Saturday Malin and her mom went to town for some quality time while I was waiting for my brothers. Rickard, Susanne and little Kalle arrived first. They really liked our apartment. :-) Robert and Anna-Lena came after a while. I showed the apartment and then we ate cake in the kitchen. I got a beautiful flower bouquet and a Pilgrim bracelet. Between that and my beautiful steel ring I have all the jewelry I could ask for! They stayed for about two hours and we exchanged Christmas gifts (not opened until Christmas though!) I wore my new dress and they thought I looked very pretty.
After they left I was alone for a couple of hours before Malin and her mom came home. At seven pm my aunt, uncle and cousin showed up. We had coffee and treats and they saw what had been done to the place since they were here last. They went home around nine.
So that's it, the whole kablooey.
I got very nice gifts, a lovely card from Silver and I got to drink champagne and be beautiful so it was OK. It's only a pity I couldn't have a real party with lots of friends and celebrations. But Lena came and Malin was nice so it was OK. The only bad thing was when Malin's friends wouldn't leave and kept showing stuff on the computer. >_< The best part of the birthday was definitely getting a formal congratulation from the company and all my friends at work singing to me and giving me flowers. :-) That made the whole day! Yay! I'll take more pictures of the flowers today. I'll also drink my cider and have a good time with Malin today. And I will not forget the cake tomorrow!
