Renovation, Parents etc.
Jul. 1st, 2007 09:52 amYesterday my brother Robert came over to start the demolishing. He began with tearing down the ceiling in the dining room. Somewhere in the 1970s the previous owner lowered the ceiling 30 cm which was popular at the time. It turned out the work was very well done since it took Robert two hours to dismantle it.
First there was the ceiling plates, under that plywood, under that an intricate frame work of really thick wooden planks.
Beneath it all there was a decorated 1930s stone ceiling which will look awesome after washing and painting. The extra 30 cm will also do a lot for the room's atmosphere.
He also found that the door to the kitchen is twice was twice as large as it is now, which was common in the 1930s. Perhaps even the original glass piece remainds, hidden in the wall.
Unfortunately, the refridgerator is right behind it so we couldn't open it up.
Robert also tore up the old ceiling in the dining room and the kitchen.
The idea is to demolish as much as possible (hehe), then next Monday or Tuesday my parents are coming to stay with me for one week, and then we will put in new floors, new wardrobes and paint the ceilings and walls.
Ragnar seemed very cool with it all, but it turned out he was probably more upset than he let on since I discovered when I was going to bed that he had peed in it. Ew! Well, it was just for me to change the sheets in the middle of the night.
Now I'm up and going to have my breakfast while waiting for![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
silversolitaire to wake up. We are watching the season finale of Doctor Who (have avoided all spoilers!) and after that I will go to the gym and call my parents when I do so, so that they know when to start the drive from Robert's to here.
They travel down for about two weeks every July for a party with mom's relatives and visit me and my brothers while they're at it. This year, because of the renovations, I get to enjoy their company for a whole week.
Robert and his wife are taking them to London tomorrow. This will be their first trip abroad in 40 years. They have some things to drop off at my place and wanted to drop by quick.
