City party.... three years later
May. 9th, 2008 11:20 pmYesterday the city hosted a party for all its employees. Three years ago they did the same thing if you remember. This year the party was a lot better.
Last time I rushed home and changed into fancy clothes. This year I simply put on a new top in the morning and went to the party directly after work. I am much more laid back these days, hehe.
The weather was lovely and the queues weren't that horrible. They have also re-built the arena since last time to make the sound a lot better (and the seats more comfortable.) The food, a kind of cold wok, was okay. There was a long wait occasionally intercut by circus performances and boogie dancing (wtf.)
When the main show finally started the wait was worth it. All the songs were from Eurovision tryouts and they had managed to get the actual original artists for most songs! Everyone was really shocked and surprised. The first act was Herreys who got thundering applause. (They won the ESC in 1984.)
It's very surprising that they managed to get so many established artists agree to come and play just one song.
The final performance was this year's representative for Sweden, Charlotte Perelli, during whose performance there was a fireworks display.
During the show the emcee, a local comedian, managed to be funny while interviewing politicians and showed funny film clips of him scouping out city hall and trying out various jobs. The funniest thing was how everyone was made fun of and made fun of themselves. The local comedy troup has a Teletubbies act they perform every year where they portray the leading politicians in Teletubby costumes. When the Teletubbies appeared before the final act everyone was amused and surprised to see that it was the actual politicians, hehe!
It was a very cool show. I laughed and clapped and sang along a lot.
After the show was over many people went home but I stayed behind for the disco. I drank cider and danced non stop for about an hour and a half before getting a ride home from my co-worker Sara. It was quite nice to not have to get on a bus after all that. I was in bed by twelve thirty, which is only about an hour after my usual time.
