Final word on the kid front
Jul. 16th, 2009 07:03 pmSo I talked to mom last night. I told her I'll probably not have children and she said that's okay. They already have enough grandchildren and aren't expecting any more.
She also said you should never have children to fulfil a duty.
This calmed me a lot. I mean, I really appreciated that I was raised by two people who loved each other and really wanted to have me (and my brothers.) And if I never end up in a position where I feel that, then I shouldn't procreate.
Mom also recommended that I nurture my relationships with children and said that morally speaking, saving a life is worth as much as creating a life. I mean, of course most people have to have kids, but those of us who don't can still contribute to the survival of the human race.
I'm really grateful I have such great parents who understand me, and that I live in a time and culture where I have a choice.
