Work, Group, Choir
Oct. 10th, 2009 09:22 pmI've had a good week. At work we're going into our busiest period of the year. Well, no quite, but soon. Our goal this year is to sign with 2000 new companies with a total volume of 300 million kWh. We're at 1150 / 175 now, with two and a half months left of the year. 2008 was the first time we reached our goal since 2003, and we're anxious to do it again. This is what I love best about my job; the competition, the common striving towards a goal, the absolute excitement and encouragement.
On Wednesday there was the Amnesty meeting. Although we do write letters and collect a lot of money for AI, our meetings mostly serve a social function. The core group is a 87 year old poet/muciscian, the 82 year old widower who preceeded me as secretary, a sixty year old mother-of-five and left leaning cultural worker, a conservative male accountant, a middle aged mentally challenged man, a thirty year old female nurse and myself, who is probably weirder than all of them combined. I'm very fond of them, and I think they're fond of me.
The poet has sent me his poetry book which I'm currently reading. He and I stayed behind and listened to music and talked to the other guy, while we waited for the taxi. I never thought I'd hang out with old people, but it's pretty cool.
Today my choir had our first recital. It was arranged by Rotary and held at City Hall. We were one of several acts. It went well. The arrangers had only managed to sell half the tickets, so there wasn't a big audience. Now we have some experience for our big concert in December.
