Mar. 5th, 2004 11:32 amI just had the most amusing customer case this morning. This member of the farmer's union, about sixty years old, claims he's being charged in advance. That's pretty common so I check it out.
Turns out he's not charged at all in advance. He has to pay for March's consumption on the first of April, and in order to be sure it has arrived on April 1st (which I told him isn't really that important since we don't take any action until a bill is at least 14 days late in payment) he has to deposit the money at least 3-4 days in advance. "That means I have to pay for a commodity you haven't fully delivered!"
GROAN!
A) Most customers in the electric business ARE billed in advance. That's pretty standard.
B) He isn't - really.
C) He can pay the bill at April 1st if he feels like it.
D) If he doesn't want to do that then he has already had 90 % or so of the electricity delivered when he pays the bill.
The man demands that we change him to being charged in arrears "or else." He says he first of all had called his consultants and lawyers who were "most distraught" that we "behaved in this manner" and who had promised him to pursue the case should we refuse.
Jesus!!!!
Turns out that the customer in question has a staggering yearly consumption of 7500 kwh... Which means he pays 40 SEK or so a couple of days in advance...
Oh for the love of...
Of course we changed his damn debit class just to get him out of our hair, but as my co-worker said, with that attitude we might as well have refused. My boss was also very annoyed.
How the fuck can some people spend so much damn energy and call their advisors over such a little thing?? My co-worker said "He was born in the 1930s - those are the worst."
