May. 16th, 2004 01:24 pmI wont bore you with the details of the trip, I'll just summarize it for you:
We had a bunch of lectures and tasks relating to the company values. We had dinner in a hotel near the ferry terminal on the mainland and various pther meals while in Visby. The boat rides went OK. I'd been given sea sickness pills from a co worker and they worked (and made me sleepy.) I managed to sleep a bit both to and from Gotland.
On Friday we also went and visited the state gaming company for two hours and in the evening we were brought by bus to a mansion out in the country where we got to play traditional sports before being treated to a three course Gotlandian dinner. A Gotlandian folm music group performed. On Saturday everyone used their free time to go shopping (WTF??) but I managed to tear away from them and go on a two hour stroll along the Great Wall, and the ocean, checking in on the Botanic Gardens, and climbing a hill. So I feel accomplished. I gathered lots of tourist information for Malin.
I will tell you an incident that evolved into an amusing story.
After arriving in Visby on Thursday Clea and I immediately went to sleep. At 0330 in the morning we were awoken by loud bangings. At first we ignored it but it continued. Finally we realised that it was our door that someone was banging on. Clea got up and opened it and there stood our co-worker in his underpants. He apologized and left.
The day after we learned that he had been sleep walking and had been quite shaken by the whole thing. As I told another co-worker it soon turned into an amusing story, and she talked to him about it, telling him something I had said the night before - that I had heard that last year's conference there had been lots of drinking and sex.
At dinner after telling another funny story to the whole crowd he was asked to confess what happened the night before, and he told the story of how his alter ego had been sleep walking and woken up - half naked - in the corridor. He had discovered that his hotel door was locked and had knocked so that his room mate (our boss, btw) should let him in. Of course he hadn't realised that he was at the wrong door.
"And the girls slammed the door shut because they had heard that last year there had been lots of drinking and sex."
It was quite amusing!
