Today is the ten year Anniversary of the Estonia catastrophy. I remember it pretty well, since I was in ninth grade and we had the TV on in school all day. In the morning when I'd found out a boat had sunk, I didn't really react since boats sink all the time. I didn't realise that it was one of the massive, commercial ferries. When my parents saw it on tv, I said "Yeah, some boat sank" and they were both immediately extremely upset which kind of surprised me and made me realise how great the catastrophy was.
