Torchwood season 2 finale
Apr. 5th, 2008 08:15 pmSo we watched the finale. It was a pretty good episode. Owen's and Tosh's deaths were upsetting but at the same time I had been spoiled so I was prepared. Owen, much as I enjoy watching him, was doomed to die. The zombie thing was becoming a plot problem so I felt it was die or be restored for him.
The Gray backstory worked although I personally thought they could have come up with a more tragic betrayal than Jack just letting go of his brother's hand. If he had unknowingly tortured Gray while he was in black ops training and the torture had driven Gray mad I would have understood his hatred and Jack's self loathing. But as it was it was OTT.
The big honking problem I have with this episode is Jack being continuously tormented for 1900 years. Seriously wtf dudes. How does he even remember his team's names at the end?
But then I read
If he was really buried alive for 1000+ years and kept dying and reviving over and over again, how is he not insane or stripped of social skills/speech/balance (since he wouldn't used his legs in a millennium). I know the stock answer is "because the writers are idiots who think the fans are idiots." But seriously, I'm guessing Jack died but couldn't revive until he was dug up by TW 1901. How could he revive without taking away the recurring cause of death? I mean, there was no oxygen in the hole with him, and the dirt was probably heavy enough to crush him anyway. How could he have revived at all until he was dug up? So I think Grey miscalculated, and Jack was "dead" until those crazy Victorians dug him up.
Like
Other than that: I liked the characters, I liked the action bits, I absolutely adored the threeway hug Jack gives Gwen and Ianto (plz to be writing teh threesome fics now.)
It will be interesting to see what happens next season. I bet Jack will become very protective of Gwen and Ianto. And Rhys survived the season!
Notice also how he is getting used to manhandle Weevils? Hmmm????
