ESC, random stuff
May. 27th, 2008 10:56 pmI just finished watching a BBC report on the Fritzl case and suddenly the "luxuries" or having a home to feel safe in, self determination and freedom from harm feel pretty damn overwhelming. Seriously, that man needs to be locked up for good. Between that, and reading about Afghan girls who are sold as child brides (wtf) makes me feel very lucky and privileged. I actually get to decide what happens to my body. :-/
And for something completely different: now that I've had some time to digest the disappointment, hehe, I guess I should talk about the ESC.
I genuinely think Sweden's song is good, but I guess Europe doesn't agree. I think a large part is the performance. It just wasn't as good or as complex as some of the others. And the irony of it being the jury's pick from the semi finale. >_< If it hadn't been for that rule, we wouldn't be in the finale at all. That's a tough pill to swallow.
Other than that I was disappointed France's entry didn't do so well. I quite liked it and I thought originality should have paid off.
Other than that I liked Turkey, Azerbaijan, the UK, the Ukraine and a few others. I thought Russia was okay but not spectacular. I am pleased that they won rather than Greece, which for some reason really rubbed me the wrong way.
So I guess it's Moscow next year. Should be fun.
It was a great week. It was wonderful to have
elenhinstar over. We had lots of fun.
On Friday I got my salary which included the yearly bonus and a retroactive payraise. I bought myself a bra from a proper bra shop (the kind where old ladies adjust it for you), a skirt, lots of groceries and a proper pair of shoes. And with proper I mean more expensive than I usually get. I calculated that I have worn out three pairs of shoes (!) since October and I figured if I splurge next time they'll last longer.
