Evolution stumbles

kribban1) I'm genuinely disappointed and heart-broken over Italy's loss in Eurovision last night. For months I've been so sure of a win, and when I watched country after country give Italy Null Points while giving points to much less worthy songs, it was the biggest let-down in a long time. I'm extremely angry that our own entry, a mindless, soulless, bubble-gum pop song, finished HIGHER than the glory that is Occidentali's Karma.
To put it in fandom language: it's as if your OTP is sunk in canon while your NOTP becomes End Game. I'll be grieving this for a long time.
2) My parents were supposed to fly home on Friday, but dad fell out of bed on Thursday night and on Friday morning he was full-on demented. Didn't know where he was, thought his brother was still alive etc. Mom called my brother and we did a Stroke-test, then I called an ambulance.
The EMTs were super-professional and dad was admitted to the hospital. Mom spent all weekend staying at my apartment, and I got more Mom-time, which was great. Sadly, this meant I had to go to M's apartment and watch Eurovision on her tiny computer screen instead of my big-screen TV. But considering how the show turned out, maybe this was a blessing in disguise. :-/
I spent the night, and after a nice breakfast, I got a call from the hospital that dad was being discharged. Mom, on the other hand, had broken out in fever and was too tired to go pick him up. So I picked him up and we went home in a taxi together. Turns out he had a "mysterious infection" and antibiotics were doing the trick. He's still tired, but not confused and can walk without falling down.
This evening, my other brother came by to pick my parents up. Now they will stay at his house until they are well enough to travel home.
I'm finally sitting down with my computer for the first time in days. And I was planning a whole weekend of partying and writing. :O
