Am back from my first ever job-conference/kick-off. Yay! (A school conference when I was 13 doesn't count.)
Was gone from 11.30 - 21.00. Am drunkie-poo. To summarize:

It was great. The resort was very nice. They had three (!) other conferences there so they're obviously in demand. Our boss drove us in a mini van. When we came there we immediately had lunch which was great: a great salad buffay and yummy steak with potatoes and sauce. Very nice. And we got those wonderful mint-chocholates with the tea and coffee. Damn, i wish i had one now! Anyway, afterwards we had one hour of "present ourselves" i.e. fill out a survey about ourselves and present it. As a person I admire I chose my friend Kristin, the famous author (remember her?) though there are many people I admire. I didn't want to write Malin "because so many bad things has happened to her and she's still alive". I mean you can't do that. I chose Kristin because she's this really amazing woman, with a very rich life, in both academics and marriage, and very young at heart though she's in her fifties. I didn't get to present because they ran out of time.

After that we had this lecture with some young and hip Ph.D from Stockholm University who spoke about customer relations, what is a relation etc. blah blah blah. We got to do some exercises in groups. We also had coffee or tea. When it was all done and we had all discussed our results we went to this hill where we got beer or mineral water (i chose mineral water) and beer sausages, you know those long stick-like ones? We also got cowboy scarves which we had to wear. Some guy played the guitar and we got divided into groups and got lists of things to find. My group had to find dry dog shit and green rubber among other things. We didn't win the contest of who had found the most in the shortest time, but we managed to find all the items on our list.

Eventually we all gathered in the attic of the main building, a very posh looking castle. They announced the winners and gave them golden hats and then served drinks. You could choose with or without alcohol, and I chose with. They were these little shots that smelled like brandy and tasted sweet. The troubadour entertained some more and after a few songs the food was ready. This time it was some sort of texan buffay, though did the cowboys really eat baked potatoes with shrimpsalad as one at our table cleverly pointed out? Food was OK, but not as good as lunch. I ate and ate and ate... I also drank a glass of very freaky smelling white wine that resembled communion wine though it was white. It was yummy nonetheless. As the night progressed there was more entertainment from the troubadour, more singing and a music contest. I thought I would get nauseous from the food but the saturation eased quite quickly and I could even enjoy getting tipsy on the wine without problems. Sometime after eight o'clock the party ended and everyone left. Our boss was driving us back to work and she dropped me and my co-worker (who also lives in in Geneta) off at Geneta Centre and so I was home five minutes later. That was very nice of her since then we didn't have to walk home all the way from work after drinking.

Anyway it was fun. The conference didn't give THAT much but it was fun to have been there and it definitely boosted the solidarity between all the employees. I feel very much like a part of them. I had been to the bathroom before we left and so I walked with the president to the parking lot. He doesn't wear ties and everyone calls him Johan. So that's nice. And now I'm home, squee! And I didn't have to cook today!

All i wish now is that I had some candy. I have some chocolate ice cream that I shall eat later.

Now for something not at all amusing, but you'll need to know anyway:

You guys know Malin works as a telephonist at the local taxi company? Well, as of now, all the employees are under death threat. This disgruntled former taxi driver who was fired fifteen years ago pressed a shotgun into the temple of one of Malin's co-workers when she was at a party this weekend. He told her he wasn't going to rest until he had killed one taxi driver and one telephonist. She was so scared she threw up afterwards. Then on Sunday night he called the company and said he would kill the woman, another one of Malin's co workers, who answered the phone. He tried to break into the office but ran as she said she had called 911, which she had. The police arrested him but he has been released awaiting charges. Malin called from work earlier and said he has called several times tonight but she and the girl working with her have not picked up. (The office has caller ID.) What an asshole. I hope he gets ten years. Malin's bosses have asked all telephonists to walk in pairs to the bus stop.
