I just learned that the swedish film, The Evil, which won Best Picture at the swedish film awards last night, has been nominated for an Oscar. I'm surprised since I thought Lilja 4-ever would be a sure nominee last year but it wasn't. I haven't see The Evil or read the book on which it's based but I've read a lot of Guillou. It's a bit of a controversial story since it's very violent and has a very controversial climax. The novel is based on Jan Guillou's own life story and there's been a lot of writings in the press since the old book became adapted to the big screen. His mother has come out and said the things that happen in the book never happened in real life and so forth.
